• Chessboard orientation, setup, square notation
• All piece movements and special rules (castling, en passant)
• Check, checkmate, stalemate, and king safety
• Basic checkmates (K+Q vs K, K+R vs K)
• Tactical fundamentals: hanging pieces, forks, pins, skewers, discovered attacks, removing the defender
• Opening principles: control of the center, development, castling early, avoiding queen traps
• Introductory opening systems: Italian Game, Queen’s Pawn structures
• Basic endgames: opposition, pawn promotion races, simple endgame techniques
• Tournament skills: chess notation, using chess clocks, basic tournament rules and conduct.
